1 NOTE The christening of Francis and his siblings comes from Wymondham parish
2 CONT registers, as does the marriage of his parents.  These data were found by Amy
2 CONT VanCott and confirmed without problem (Film no.1911510).  Francis Webster led
2 CONT a truly interesting, unusual, and impressive life.  For an account of his time
2 CONT in Australia, in the California gold rush, and afoot with his family in the
2 CONT Martin Handcart company crossing the Rocky Mountains in the winter of 1856,

1 NOTE The children of Thomas II Webster and Mary Goward were often christened late
2 CONT in their childhood, so they are given here in the order of their birth. Both
2 CONT christening and birth dates come from the Wymondham parish registers (Film
2 CONT no.1911510).  Two other daughters (Mary and Elizabeth) are given in
2 CONT "Generations of Websters" (p.4) but were not found in the Wymondham records. 
2 CONT Amy VanCott obtained the marriage certificates for Eleanor, Francis, Emily,
2 CONT and William for her family group sheets.

2 CONT The marriage of Thomas II Webster and Mary Goward in Wymondham had witnesses
2 CONT Jeremiah Forster and Elizabeth Goward.  Banns were read, and he was given as
2 CONT "bachelor" and she as "spinster," so neither had been married earlier.  With
2 CONT the christening of all of Thomas's children except Eleanor he is listed as
2 CONT "labourer," and with Eleanor he is listed as a "husbandman" or small farmer. 
2 CONT His abode was always Suton or Sutton, a section of Wymondham.  At least
2 CONT thirteen Webster couples appear in the parish records besides the three known
2 CONT to be ours.  Socially they were similar as laborers, small farmers, weavers,
2 CONT etc, and further study will probably reveal family relations we don't now know.

1 NOTE Edward is our earliest certain Webster ancestor, but we know neither his birth
2 CONT nor death place. The burial of his wife Elizabeth CLICK gives a possible death
2 CONT date for him.  Other Websters were found in the records of St Julian's church
2 CONT in the city of Norwich, e.g. the burial of an Edward Webster on 20 July 1747,
2 CONT too early for our Edward but possibly his father or cousin (Film no.1657262). 
2 CONT  At least one family of Websters remained in Attleborough and had seven
2 CONT children in the years 1825-34, James Webster, a barber, and his wife Mary
2 CONT Knight.  But ours had moved away by then.

1 NOTE No further data on Elizabeth Comman or her family are given in "Generations of
2 CONT Websters," and the name is quite rare though "Colman" is frequent.  Only three
2 CONT other references appear in the Attleborough records, for Elizabeth dau of
2 CONT Thomas and Marie Coman (christened on 22 Nov 1637 and for Stephen Coman's son
2 CONT Daniel (born and buried in 1792) and his wife Mary (buried in 1805).  In
2 CONT nearby Wymondham in the 1830s Stephen Coman was a weaver, and Jonathan joined
2 CONT him in the 1840s (Film no.1911510).  In Wicklewood the name Coman appeared
2 CONT twice:  William Coman and Honor his wife had Sarah (chr 26 March 1802) and
2 CONT John Welton and wife Mary Coman had Susanna  (chr 22 Sep 1803) (Film
2 CONT no.1526812). Possibly these later families were relatives of our Elizabeth,
2 CONT but none was traced further.

2 CONT The death date given for Elizabeth Comman comes from "Elizabeth Webster widow"
2 CONT in the Attleborough parish register without more identification, but no other
2 CONT Elizabeth Webster appears there (Fiche no.6026423).  If true, this means

1 NOTE At Elizabeth Austin's burial her age was given as 43 years, though she was at
2 CONT least a year older.  Her early death left several young children but we found
2 CONT no record that Thomas I married a second time.  There were many women named
2 CONT Elizabeth.  One of the witnesses at their marriage, also named Elizabeth
2 CONT Austin, was also a witness at the wedding of Elizabeth's sister Sarah to John
2 CONT Betts.  Possibly this witness was their sister-in-law, Elizabeth Huggins, wife
2 CONT of Isaac Austin.  Another Elizabeth Austin (wife of another Thomas) lived in
2 CONT the nearby parish of Carleton Rode; she was slightly older as she had a child
2 CONT in 1778 (Film no.1526806).

1 NOTE Peter I Austin's marriage to Sarah Jacques and their children's christening
2 CONT dates were all found in the Bunwell parish transcripts for the Archdeacon
2 CONT (Film no.1526806).  At their marriage they were called "bachelor" and
2 CONT "spinster," so they had not married previously.  They were married by banns
2 CONT and both lived in the parish.  His death date is unknown, but Sarah was called
2 CONT a widow at her burial in 1800, so he died before that date.

1 NOTE Mary Rade Goward's death certificate says she was 100 years old, which would
2 CONT put her birth date seven years before her christening.   It would also make
2 CONT her 30 years old at the birth of her first known child, so perhaps there was a
2 CONT little exaggeration in her age given on the death certificate.  She and her
2 CONT husband must have been living with their daughter Ellen and husband John
2 CONT Neave, since the Neaves were listed on their death certificates as "in
2 CONT attendance" at their deaths.

1 NOTE I assume this George Goward is the son of George Goward Senior, so have
2 CONT labeled him as George Junior.  He had a large family of seven christened
2 CONT children, but almost nothing was found about their lives except William's
2 CONT marriage.  Also I attributed to George Junior two adult sons:  Charles whose
2 CONT burial at age 51 is our only data on him, and the George III who had his own
2 CONT family of children, and by date would seem to be the firstborn son of George
2 CONT Junior (Film no,1526810).  Presumably wills or deeds will supply needed
2 CONT information on this Goward line.

1 NOTE Possibly this NN Webster was the widower"William" buried on 28 August 1730,
2 CONT presumably the husband of Maria Webster earlier buried in Attleborough.  Or
2 CONT perhaps that couple were actually grandparents, and NN was the John Webster
2 CONT buried on 5 April 1737 with his wife being either "Widow Webster" buried on 13
2 CONT March 1747 or "Widow Webster" buried on 29 June 1759.  Our N.N. could also be
2 CONT the Willliam Webster who was buried on 17 November 1761. Both names William
2 CONT and John appear among the sons of N.N. All these possibilities are in the
2 CONT Attleborough records (Fiche no.6046423), but will require deeds, wills, or
2 CONT occupational records to sort out their actual relations.

1 NOTE The Read/Rade family was found by Amy VanCott, and their dates were supplied
2 CONT to her by the Vicar of Easton, Harold Willmot Smith, in 1967, from the Easton
2 CONT parish records.  I confirmed them in the parish registers (Film no.1657203)
2 CONT and the Archdeacon's Transcripts (Film no.1526810), which also showed the
2 CONT likely parents of this William Read as an earlier William Read and his wife,
2 CONT also Mary NN.  Though we have no proof of this parentage, it fits by date and
